At Kiddywinks the children plan their own day, choosing activities they would like to do; not what we would like them to do. Our highly trained staff extend what the children choose and encourage them to reach their full potential in everything they do. This concept of free play, a freedom of choice, is inspired by the Reggio Emilla approach and enables children to follow their own individual inspirations.
Every parent wants their child to succeed and here at Kiddywinks we share that aim. By providing both nursery and pre-school care we are especially enabled to further the progression of your child through all the stages of learning and development. This joined up way of supporting your child through their early year’s reaches new heights; relationships with adults and peers are created in a familiar, safe and consistent environment, and transitions are limited.
We work alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage in all areas of our nurseries. Documenting everything that will do and scrap booking remarkable events and creating wonderful individual records of development. Invitations to play are promoted and individual likes and dislikes are explored through the children’s Schemas (patterns of play). Many new skills are developed and much knowledge is gained at this time (as well as throughout the day) as adult initiated play assist’s the children in building confidence in their ability to tackle everyday challenges.
You will see that we provide opportunities for your child to learn at their own pace, with expectations removed. We do not promote formal education, instead we encourage your children to learn creatively, giving them trust and independence to learn in they own unique and individual way.
We have a very detailed and thorough documentation system in place in our nurseries. Individual development files are in place for every child; these are facilitated by your Kiddylink (Key worker). A quarterly 'my reflection' and 'summaries of development' along with art work and photos form the basis of this beautiful record of development. These go with your child to school to assist in the transition but ultimately remain yours to add memories to for their future.
A strong belief in reflexive practice is instilled in our practice and within our practitioners. Evaluating frequently and consulting with our families and our children also enable us to be emergent and reflexive in our way of thinking.
